HSBC has advised Vietnam to be cautious about provision of credits for its property market, considering it fraught with risk. The bank says caution is needed despite the sector making an important contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In it regular June report, the HSBC notes that property prices, especially in the luxury segment in Vietnam's big cities, have increased over the past two years. Last year, prices of luxury apartments climbed up 9 percent year-on-year, while those in affordable and mid-end segment rose 4-5 percent.

The disbursed amount of public investment funded by official development assistance (ODA) in localities in the first five months of this year stood at only over VND1.1 trillion (US$47.9 million), equivalent to just 1.73% of the year’s target, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF). As many as 37 out of 63 provinces and cities have not yet disbursed any capital and 15 provinces and cities have a disbursement rate of 3 percent. The information was revealed at an online conference on June 14 between the ministry and localities to accelerate disbursement of ODA-funded public investment.

The People’s Committee of HCMC has approved an auction for the plots of land 3-8 located in the Functional Area No 3 in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Thu Duc City’s An Khanh Ward. The plots cover a total area of around 8,568.1 square meters, belonging to the plot number 11, map sheet number 64. The land-use purpose is residential housing projects that are not associated with the commercial services while land use term is 50 years.

HCMC will prioritise investment for metro lines that are being implemented and other new projects under the development plan for railway and green transport development (BRT) projects for 2021-2025 period. Specifically, the city will complete and put into operation 19.7km-long metro line no.1 linking Ben Thanh Market and Suoi Tien tourist park and deploy the construction of 11.32km-long metro line No. 2 linking Ben Thanh Market and Tham Luong.

The State-run Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has said it wants to borrow US dollars from local banks for the country's largest airport project, Long Thanh International Airport in southern Dong Nai province. ACV Chairman Lai Xuan Thanh sent a report to the Economic Committee of the National Assembly, asking them to support the plan of borrowing and paying in US dollars in order to maximise benefits and efficiency. Thanh said as the interest rate in the foreign currency was lower than the Vietnamese dong, it would help the firm to save on costs.

Global giants Amazon and Alibaba are racing to recruit more Vietnamese vendors on their platforms seeking to boost their share of a booming e-commerce market. Amazon saw the number of Vietnamese merchants exporting at least $1 million worth of goods from Vietnam triple last year. The surge was driven by demand for tools, kitchenware, handicrafts, home goods, and apparel.

IPP Air Cargo, Vietnam's first cargo airline, would fly to 16 local destinations and a number of foreign ones, and break even in three years, its chairman told VnExpress. To be established next year by retail company Imex Pan Pacific Group (IPPG), which distributes over 100 global luxury brands in Vietnam, it would carry goods from Noi Bai airport in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat in HCMC to the other local airports, Jonathan Hanh Nguyen, Chairman of both IPPG and IPP Air Cargo, said.
