Operation Smile And CBRE Come Together In Hanoi To Change Lives

Ho Chi Minh City, December 4 2018 - Operation Smile Vietnam and CBRE joined forces again in Hanoi to build awareness and raise funds to change lives for Vietnam’s children. Operation Smile Vietnam hosted its 29th Gala Dinner and Charity Auction on December 1 at the Sheraton Hanoi Hotel, with Rob Blain, Executive Chairman, CBRE Asia Pacific, serving as auctioneer for the annual event.

Proceeds from the auction and event raised funds that will be used to perform 350 life-changing facial surgeries for children in Vietnam. Specifically, the funds will be deployed to provide safe, effective cleft lip and cleft palate surgery, and deliver postoperative and ongoing medical therapies to children across Vietnam.

“The fight against facial deformities in Vietnam’s children is only intensifying through a campaign of education and action. By raising awareness, committing to impact and deploying funds and resources to the children and families that need the most urgent help, we will continue to change lives more effectively in Vietnam. At the same time, bring international attention to the plight faced by many of Vietnam’s children and their families,” said Viet Nguyen, Vice President for Development and Asia Pacific Country Representative at Operation Smile.

The December 1 event included a silent auction, raffle prizes of 5-star hotel and resort vouchers, and a live auction of unique items and Vietnamese contemporary artworks led by CBRE’s legendary auctioneer Rob Blain, in addition to various musical performances.

“Actions speak louder than words, especially when children are concerned. The efforts of Operation Smile Vietnam both transform lives and inspire societal change. For this reason, we as an organisation are extremely inspired of the impact Operation Smile Vietnam makes each day and proud to continue our two-decade long commitment to this partnership,’ said Blain.

Since 1982, Operation Smile has provided more than 220,000 free surgical procedures for children and young adults including 30,000 children of Vietnam. In 2014, Operation Smile launched a national registry initiative in Vietnam while conducting large-scale surgical programs to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its first medical mission there. The effort included dental missions, simultaneous cleft missions, a cranio-facial mission, a micro-surgery mission, a high school student conference, education conferences, on-going training for speech language pathology and nursing, and research for International Family Study and barriers to care.
