Vietnam jumps 14 places in global enabling trade index

Vietnam advanced 14 places in the Enabling Trade Index of the World Economic Forum, now ranking 73rd out of 136 economies, according to the Global Enabling Trade Report released on November 30. The advancement is largely driven by improvements in border administration, with improved customs efficiency (now at 66th) and reduced times for documentary and border compliance for both importing and exporting (a reduction of approximately 30 total hours for both cases), according to the Report.

EuroCham supports HCM City to become smart city

The European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) has proposed measures to support Ho Chi Minh City to become a smart city at a workshop in the city on November 24. Yannick Millet, a member of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC), highlighted the role of green construction materials, such as baking-free bricks, foamed concrete, saying that they will contribute to effective construction while reducing carbon emission during operation.

Vietnam: Realty firm Novaland sells stake worth $120m to 18 investors

Ho Chi Minh City-based property developer Novaland has successfully sold part of stakes to a consortium of investors for $120 million, according to a report on Bloomberg. This was part of Novaland’s fundraising schedule, ahead of the company’s IPO plan, Novaland had earlier announced. “Novaland will conduct private placements to prominent financial investors in order to increase the charter capital to VND6 trillion,” the company posted on its website.

"Golden sites" transform form car parking to construction sites  


Due to the instruction of HCMC People's Committee, golden sites in District 1 and 3 started construction work. In 2007, 20 golden sites (approx. 50 ha) were planned by the HCMC authority. Until now, only four golden sites are under construction. After the instruction of HCMC authority, four more sites will be activated including: SJC Tower, Lavenue Crown, BIDV site in Nguyen Hue street and a project in 23/9 park. A VND5,300 billion-project is set to start on the golden land in District 1, revealing developer Van Thinh Phat 


On Dec 2, Saigon Diamond Corp will hold a groundbreaking ceremony of the SJC Tower project, which is located on a quadrilateral bounded by 4 routes of Le Loi – Nam Ky Khoi Nghia – Le Thanh Ton – Nguyen Trung Truc, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1. Notably, this project is related to Van Thinh Phat Group and other related firms. Accordingly, on the website of Vietnam Infrastructure and Property Development Group Corporation (VIPD) also disclosures information as one of the first-class project’s developers in the centre of this city.

Land price around Hoan Kiem Lake up to 1.4 billion VND per sm



Dinh Tien Hoang street is now having the highest price in Hanoi, at 1.08 billion VND per sqm. The followings are Le Thai To street (from 1.0 billion VND per sqm), Hang Khay street (from 753.7 million VND per sqm). Bao Khanh route has a maximum price of 1.0 billion VND per sqm with Hang Trong, Hang Hanh street following. Besides top 3 surrounding Hoan Kiem Lake with a price from 1.15 to 1.41 billion VND per sqm, the rest: Hang Ca, Hai Ba Trung, Phan Chu Trinh, Hang Trong, Hang Hanh, Bao Khanh have price from 680 million VND to 1.0 billion VND per sqm.

HCMC seeks investors for Metro project

Ho Chi Minh City is seeking 1.9 billion USD for the second phase of metro line No 5, which extends from the new Can Giuoc Bus Station in District 8 to the Bay Hien intersection in Tan Binh District. Le Nguyen Minh Quang, director of HCM City Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR), said the city would seek investment from many sources, including ODA loans and loans through public-private partnerships. Total investment for the second phase is more than 2.4 billion USD, including construction cost and site clearance.

Hanoi is going to have a 77-ha NUA in Dan Phuong


In a near future, a project with a scale of 769,845 sqm (77 ha) with a population of 10,994 is going to be built in Dan Phuong district. On 23 Nov, Hanoi Communist of People enforced a decision no 6438/QĐ-UBND to enable the project with a ratio 1/500 of NUA in Tan Lap, Tan Hoi in Dan Phuong district and Duc Thuong, Duc Giang in Hoai Duc district. The noticeable feature of this NUA is vast area of green field and an easily accessible traffic route from center of NUA to other amenities.

Fashion franchises are a popular trend in Vietnam

The Vietnamese fashion market has been the subject of increased attention among international groups, which are looking to enter Vietnam through franchising arrangements. At a one-day event held last week at the japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) Office in Ho Chi Minh City, a group of more than 10 Japanese fashion giants introduced their wares to potential Vietnamese partners. These firms include Isato Design Works; In Design Lab; M-Trading, Inc; Kobe Leather Cloth Co., Ltd.; T-Three Co., Ltd; and Sachiyo Hayashi Beauty Laboratory Co.; Ltd. They all aim to open franchise stores in Vietnam in the future.

Quang Ninh looks to optimise maritime economic potential

  In recent years, the province has focused on infrastructure building to boost maritime economic development, especially tourism and aquaculture. Currently, all Quang Ninh’s seaports have been upgraded to strengthen their capacity in providing services and connecting the mainland and islands in the region. Some seaports in the locality are being expanded to national and regional scale, including Hai Ha, Cai Lan and Cua Ong. Quang Ninh has also mobilised resources for the comprehensive development of infrastructure in coastal economic zones and industrial parks (IPs), including the Van Don EZ and Hai Ha, Dam Nha Mac, Viet Hung and Hai Yen IPs, attracting more investment. Investment promotion activities have been used to call for investment in major projects, including Van Don airport, Van Tien bridge, major seaports and roads, as well as other projects in entertainment, resorts, aquaculture and fishing.
