Warburg Pincus, Vietnam's VinaCapital in $300 million hotel Venture

U.S.-based Warburg Pincus LLC and Vietnam's VinaCapital said on Thursday their affiliates have agreed to invest up to $300 million in a hotel venture in Southeast Asia.This will include acquisitions, the development and operation of hotels in the region, where tourist numbers are expected to triple over the next decade, especially from China, Warburg Pincus and VinaCapital said in a joint statement.

TPP or not, Vietnam will continue integration

Viet Nam will continue its reform to improve business and investment environment to support enterprises and negotiate other agreement whether US president-elect Donald Trump thwarts the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) or not, according to the Minister of Trade and Industry Tran Tuan Anh. The minister told the press on the sideline of the ongoing National Assembly that Viet Nam was consistent with its point of view and pocily in the international integration. The TPP was one of the free trade deals Viet Nam agreed to participate in, but it would proceed with other free trade agreements (FTAs) to create opportunities for companies to fuel economic growth.

Japan helps Vietnam develop large-scale infrastructure

Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko and Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Keiichi Ishii made the remarks at separate working sessions with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung in Tokyo during his visit to Japan from November 15-16. Minister Hiroshige Seko expressed his hope to strengthen coordination with Vietnam to build coal-fueled high-capacity thermal power factories and import liquefied natural gas. Meanwhile, Minister Keiichi Ishii said Japan is willing to support Vietnam to implement the North – South high-speed railway project and hopes the Southeast Asian country will use Japanese technologies to carry out urban railway lines.

Vietnam needs double-track railway for further development: experts

Major problems of Vietnam’s railway sector will be resolved if a double-track railway is developed on the route from the north to the south of the country, experts said on November 15. Vuong Dinh Khanh, former vice director general of the Vietnam Railway Corporation (VRC), said at a talk about railway development held by Giao thong (Transport) newspaper that for decades, the corporation – a major railway operator and service provider in Vietnam – desired to run 25 train pairs, but in fact operated just 18 train pairs, because infrastructure failed to meet required conditions.

HCM CIty: Nearly $225 mln for metro underground section

The management board of the HCM City urban railway projects held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an underground session from Ben Thanh station to the municipal Opera House station of the metro route No. 1 Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien. The Sumitomo Mitsui – Cienco 4 contractor joint venture won the bidding package No. 1a with a bid of VND 4.85 trillion (US$218 million). According to Le Nguyen Minh Quang, head of the management board, the package will build the four-basement Ben Thanh central station and a 515m tunnel from Ben Thanh station to the municipal Opera House station under Le Loi Street.

Ho Chi Minh City designs $250mn metro route leading to major airport

A project on constructing a multimillion-dollar metro route leading to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to be submitted to the prime minister for approval in two years. The journey will be two kilometers long, with two underground stops being placed at the park and at the international terminal of the airdrome. The second stop will also be connected with the domestic terminal via a tunnel for pedestrians.

Hanoi: 10-month foreign investment jumps 2.6 times year on year

Hanoi attracted 445 foreign invested projects with total registered capital of 2.8 billion USD between January and October, rising by 2.6 times from the same period of 2015. About 1.2 billion USD of the registered capital was implemented during the period. Big foreign investments were poured into some industries that the capital city is strong at, he said, noting that in the hi-tech sector, 300 million USD was committed for the building of a Samsung research and development Centre More than 22,000 new businesses with registered capital of over 203 trillion VND (about 9.1 billion USD) have been born in the city since the beginning of 2016, respectively rising by 19 percent and 42 percent from a year earlier.

Hanoi requests to stop using apartments as a business place

Department of Planning and Investment of Hanoi has issued a requirement that all organizations, enterprises, businesses stop using apartments as a business place. Enterprises which headquartered in a condominium have to changes its headquarters to another location. According to Decree No. 99/2015 / ND-CP, on October 20, 2015 of the Government (which is officially effective on 12.10.2015), from the date this Decree takes effect, organizations, enterprises and businesses are not allowed to register their headquartered or branch offices, representative offices, places of business in a condominium. If a companies has already use an apartment as its office, it has to change to another location. Department of Planning and Investment will cooperate with related agencies to checked and dealt with violated cases.

Phu Quoc International Airport to increase capacity

“At this point, Phu Quoc International Airport is in need of development. The forecast of 2020 shows that the number of visitors to the airport could be some 2.5-3 million, so a comprehensive extension is necessary,” Huynh Quang Hung, Vice chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Quoc District, said. PQC initiated its second phase in April 2015, with total investment of more than VND2 trillion (US$89.4) for all categories, including runway, hangar, passenger terminal and outdoor parking.

Hanoi to add 5 trade centers to master plan

Five trade centers will be added to the plan for wholesale and retail networks in Hanoi by 2020 and vision to 2030 under Decision No. 6239 from the Hanoi People’s Committee. The additions are primarily located in suburban districts. Four are Grade 1 trade centers. By 2020 Vietnam targets are having 1,200-1,500 supermarkets, 180 business centers, and 157 shopping centers, with retail revenue totaling $179 billion. Assessing the prosperity of Vietnam’s retail market, market researchers and experts believe it has great prospects and will record high growth in the years to come. General supermarkets and shopping centers are considered to have the most promising outlook and are strength of foreign retailers.
