Dolce & Gabbana pop-up opens in Vietnam

Italian luxury fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana has opened its first Vietnam pop-up store at Rex Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City. The brand has been brought to Vietnam by the IPP Group that also distributes other luxury brands there, including Burberry, Chanel, CK, and Salvatore Ferragamo.

CapitaLand buys 90% stake of a company that has 0.8-ha land in Thao Dien


On January 23rd, CapitalLand Limited (CapitaLand) announced that a subsidiary of Sophia VN Limited give 90% stock in CapitaLand Thanh Nien Limited Company. CTN owns 0.8-ha land in Thao Dien Ward, District 2, HCMC that will be developed into a project with 317 units of condotel.

Vingroup officially becomes the investor of Sports Complex in Thu Thiem


The HCMC government has approved Vingroup as the investor of the Sport and Entertainment Complex in functional section 2C in Thu Thiem New Urban Area. According to the municipal Department of Zoning and Architecture, section 2C in Thu Thiem covers 31.49 hectares. The complex is one of the most important projects in the new urban area, where a multi-purpose gymnasium, a sports park and other related facilities will be developed.

Vietnam to allow casinos in 3-year project

Vietnam's government on Friday published a decree to allow Vietnamese to gamble in approved casinos under certain conditions in a three-year pilot project. People over 21 years old with a regular monthly income of at least 10 million dong ($443.1) will be allowed to take part, said the decree which was published on the government's website. The casinos must be part of an entertainment and hotel complex with investment capital of at least $2 billion and comply with several other requirements, it said.

Temporary floating bridge built to boost Vietnam-China border trade

A ground-breaking ceremony for a temporary floating bridge over the Ka Long border river was held in Mong Cai city of the northern province of Quang Ninh on January 19. The bridge is the first of its kind connecting Mong Cai city with Dongxing city of China. The floating bridge is expected to boost import-export activities and economic development between the two border cities and minimise the weather impact on goods transport while reducing cost of transportation, contributing to the socio-economic development of the two localities.

Logistics firms fight foreign giants

Despite being in the early stages of development, Vietnam’s logistics sector is staying on the radar of foreign investors.  Vietnam has become a popular production base for several Japanese and South Korean manufacturers, including Samsung, Panasonic, and Bridgestone. The government is expected to provide more support for the logistics sector, which forms the backbone of domestic and international trade in any economy. During the period from 2016-2020, Vietnam is expected to require almost $176.6 billion for infrastructure investment.

HCMC will have electric bus in the CBD of District 1 and Phu My Hung


On 24th January, HCMC Operation Centre and Passenger Public Transportation implemented a trial of 4-wheel electric bus service in the CBD (District 1) and Phu My Hung urban area (District 7). In particular, the three routes are D1 operating in the CBD, D2 and D3 operating in Phu My Hung urban area.

Vietnam-Japan trade expected to surge in 2017


The Vietnam-Japan trade is expected to reach a new height in 2017 as the two countries have agreed on many measures to boost the trade exchange. Vu Cuong, deputy head of East Asia division of the Asia Pacific Market Department under the MoIT, said a series of visits made by leaders of the two countries in early 2017 reflected the two sides’ resolve to boost ties. Besides good diplomatic relationship, trade experts urged the business community to seize opportunities brought about by the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership.
