Marriott to open new resort in Nha Trang

Marriott International has signed a contract with the Hon Tam Nha Trang Sea Joint Stock Company to open the new Courtyard by Marriott Nha Trang Hon Tam Resort just off the coast of the popular south-central beach city.
The new Courtyard by Marriott Nha Trang Hon Tam Resort will feature 373 inviting, well-appointed guestrooms that embrace the brand’s smart-casual design ethos by combining modern furniture with a clean, refreshing palette. There will also be onsite dining venues that help guests foster connections and savor authentic Vietnamese and international cuisine.

Bangkok Airways zeroes in on Phu Quoc

Bangkok Airways will launch regular flights to Phu Quoc, the Vietnamese island emerging as a new holiday destination in Southeast Asia. The SET-listed Thai regional airline will become the first carrier to directly link Phu Quoc with Bangkok starting on Oct 29 with four flights a week, airline insiders told the Bangkok Post. Bangkok Airways will operate an ATR72-600 turboprop with 70 seats for the non-stop flight from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport to the Vietnamese island.

Ha Nam attracts $194 million in investment

Ha Nam Province has attracted 46 projects, including 10 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects, with total registered capital of nearly US$194 million, so far this year. 
To this effect, Ha Nam will also increase checks on the enforcement of law in investments to clear obstacles for investors.
The province also plans to improve the quality of investments by prioritising projects in the support industry, and processing and manufacturing sectors that use high-tech and environment-friendly technologies.

ACV to invest $528 million in upgrading three airports



Cat Bi International Airport will complete a system of parallel taxiways with the total capital of VND900 billion ($40 million). 
In 2017-2018, ACV is expected to invest VND165 billion in Chu Lai International Airport to raise terminal capacity to 1.5-1.8 million passengers a year. 
About VND2,650 billion will be spent on Phu Bai International Airport to increase terminal capacity to four million passengers a year, construct parallel taxiways and three new aprons and purchase new equipment and devices to improve flight management ability to 20 flights an hour.

SBV hiking foreign reserves



The State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) unexpectedly resumed the issue of central bank bills worth VND8 trillion (US$350.9 million) this week, a move aimed at increasing the nation’s foreign exchange reserves.
According to industry insiders, SBV made the move as commercial banks did not sell the US dollar to the central bank although they bought a large quantity of the greenback from individuals and institutions.

Vietnam finally considers allowing foreigners to put cash in banks

Vietnam’s central bank is looking at a proposal to allow banks to accept deposits from foreigners in an attempt to reduce the risk of cash speculation. The State Bank of Vietnam's proposal includes foreigners who are visiting, studying or working in Vietnam, and would allow them to deposit Vietnamese dong or foreign currencies at commercial banks in Vietnam.

CGV takes over two Platinum cinemas in Hanoi

CGV officially took over from Platinum in operating two international-standard cinemas in Vingroup projects in Hanoi on July 14.
The cinemas are located at Vincom Mega Mall Royal City in Thanh Xuan district and Vincom Mega Mall Times City in Hai Ba Trung district.
On March 1, Vincom Retail (VCR) forced the closure of the Platinum Cineplex, at Vincom Long Bien Plaza, Vincom Mega Mall Times City, and Vincom Mega Mall Royal City.

HCM City’s largest cemetery to be turned into residential area



HCM City authorities plan to turn part of Binh Hung Hoa, the city's biggest cemetery, into a residential area and a park. Among the 22 hectares of land to be auctioned, 12 hectares will be turned into a residential area and shopping centre. The money of VND2.5 trillion (USD113.7 million) expected to be raised by the auction will pay for the relocation of the graves. The land will cost about VND15 million per square metre. Many local people supported the relocation, saying that the cemetery has become a spot for crimes for years.

HCM City authorities approved inter-ward roads projects in District 9

The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has approved the construction of a road linking the inter-ward road (Huy Can Street) to Do Xuan Hop Street, District 9 from the capital of residential project investors in the area.
From July 15, traffic will not be available on this route on Saturday and Sunday from 19:00 until 2:00 the next morning.
