EU wants to become the largest investor in Vietnam

The European Union (EU) wants to become the largest investor in Vietnam, especially in HCMC and neighbouring localities, said Ambassador Bruno Angelet, head of the EU Delegation to Vietnam during a meeting in the southern city on March 15 with Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong. The EU is ready to assist HCMC in developing renewable and green energy, including the construction of green buildings and the effective use of energy, he stated.

Aeon to spend $200 million for 2nd shopping mall in its Hanoi expansion

Vietnam is considered Aeon’s priority destination in Southeast Asia with the largest number of shopping centers to date. Japanese retailer Aeon is planning to pour $200 million into its second shopping mall in Hanoi this year, a company official said, which would see its investment in Vietnam’s capital nearly doubling. The new facility covers an area of 9.5 hectares (23.5 acres) in Ha Dong District, Hanoi’s largest suburb by population. It is scheduled to come into operation at the end of 2019. That will be the fifth shopping mall Aeon has opened in Vietnam, after its first unit was launched outside HCMC's downtown in January 2014.

Chartered flights to bring European tourists to Phu Quoc Island

Ha Van Sieu, deputy head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), said the two travel agents have worked with VNAT over a plan to open the two new air routes while attending ITB Berlin travel exhibition which took place in Germany from March 8 to 10. TUI is scheduled to take British tourists to Phu Quoc on chartered flights on a weekly basis from next November and it also has worked with five big resorts there in preparation for the upcoming plan to open 1000 stores globally within five years.

Recently, the information about the Group proposed an investment project consists of 59km long Riverside Road connect District 1 to Cu Chi district, new urban areas in Cu Chi district, Saigon Marina in Can Gio … with a total investment of up to VND65,000 billion.

After the Prime Minister agreed to convert the land from military to civil use, the Ministry of defence has transfered the land in Nha Trang airport, the People's committee of Khanh Hoa Province agreed for Phuc Son Group Joint Stock company (referred to as Phuc Son) for projects in the central zone of the town-financial-services-tourism in Nha Trang on the area than 62ha, the total investment capital of over 10,000 billion VND. Unexpectedly, the project owner is a young 8x, born in 1981 in Vinh Phuc. During the recent capital increase, the entire VND 500 billion capital increase are from Mr. Nguyen Van Hau himself.

Real estate-related outstanding debts worth USD 50 billion – Construction – Economy

The Minister of Construction said the real estate market is a frozen zone, with very few transactions. Real estate businesses are in trouble while a large proportion of poor people still lack housing. According to the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), by August 31, the total outstanding loans related to real estate was about 203 trillion VND ($10.15 billion), of which the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio was 6.6%. However, Minister Dung said if the outstanding loans related to real estate, which includes loans related to real estate business, loans for production and business investment, mortgages by real estate, the credit balance is about 57% of total loans, or about 50 billion USD.

NIDEC says to pour more capital into HCMC

Nidec Corporation of Japan, which has invested in numerous projects in HCMC over the years, will continue pouring capital into its projects in the city, including a research and development (R&D) center, the company’s president said at a meeting on March 14 with Chairman of HCMC Nguyen Thanh Phong. Nidec has invested in 46 countries and territories around the world, including 21 years in Vietnam.
