Circle K convenience store chain opens 100th store in VN

HCM CITY (VNS) — US-owned 24-hour convenience store Circle K has opened its 100th outlet in Viet Nam and expects to have 150 by the year's end. Viet Nam CEO Tony Yan was optimistic about achieving the target, saying Viet Nam's modern retail industry was in the initial development phase.

Thanh Ha NUA – Cienco 5 to restart construction

Vingroup builds Hai Phong complex

HAI PHONG (VNS) — Vingroup Retail Co and Hai Phong Real Estate Development and Investment Co broke ground for a commercial complex in the northern port city of Hai Phong yesterday. Located downtown on Le Thanh Tong Street, the VND600 billion (US$28 million) project covers 48,000 sq.m. It includes shopping malls and a residential area named ‘Shop House.'.

Can Tho installs free WiFi on Ninh Kieu Wharf to bring in tourists

HCM CITY (VNS) — The southern city of Can Tho recently installed free public WiFi on Ninh Kieu Wharf as part of an image-building exercise and to attract more tourists. Five sets of WiFi equipment were installed at a cost of VND$1 billion (over $47,600). Their range is 150 meters. Funded by the city's Department of Information and Communications, the system was installed by Saigon Postel Corporation in December.

Viet Nam remittances hit $12 billion in 2014

HCM CITY (Biz Hub) Remittances to Viet Nam reached US$12 billion in 2014, about $1 billion more than the amount recorded in the previous year. The remittance figures were announced at a meeting of nearly 700 members of the overseas Vietnamese community late last week, organised by the foreign affairs ministry and the HCM City People's Committee.

Treasury raises VND8 trillion from G-bonds sales

HCMC – The State Treasury mobilized nearly VND8.2 trillion (US$382.8 million) from a Government bond auction at the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) last week, VietnamPlus reports. The agency offered five-year G-bonds worth VND6 trillion, 10-year bonds worth VND1 trillion and 15-year bonds valued at VND3 trillion.

Vietnam plans to wipe out trade deficit by 2020: ministry

Vietnam is targeting an average annual export growth of 11-12 percent until 2020 and gradual reduction of imports to wipe out the trade deficit by then and achieve a surplus by 2030.The goals are set in the overseas market development plan of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, under which Asia will account for 46 percent of Vietnamese exports by 2020, while European countries will make up 20 percent, America 25 percent, Oceania 4 percent and Africa 5 percent, local Vietnam News daily reported on Monday.

66% of Japanese companies want to expand business in Vietnam: survey

According to a survey recently announced by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), 66 percent of surveyed businesses in Japan said they want to continue to expand in Vietnam, as the country is considered an important investment destination in the region. Vietnam came in 3rd place among 15 regional countries on “a legal system that is not perfect and does not operate transparently".
