FDI to Vietnam exceeds $4 bn in Q1

Foreign investors are registered to invest approximately US$4.03 billion in Vietnam in the first quarter of this year, surging by 119 per cent against the same period last year.
Statistics from the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) revealed that South Korean investors took the lead with $888.6 million, accounting for 22 per cent of the nation’s total foreign direct investment (FDI). They were followed by those from Singapore and Taiwan with $554 million and $466 million, respectively.

Exuberant real estate market attracts US$240 million in 3 months of 2016

Vietnam property market is warming up; successful transaction rate increases significantly. According to General Statistics Office, real estate activities in first quarter of 2016 are reaching to peak until 2012, grow rate is up to 3.43%. After Lunar New Year 2016, real estate market has been beginning exactly new cycle which is started by opened, launched project activities. General Statistics Office also reports that Vietnam property market has attracted high inflow of FDI, ranked second after processing industry. Until March 20, Vietnam has totally 473 new authorized projects with US$2.74 registered capital, increasing 77.2% in number of projects and 125.2% in capital compared to same period of 2015. US$1,176 million Samsung extension to support Vietnam operations

Samsung SDI Vietnam Co., Ltd. (SDIV) has been licensed to add $117.6 million to its existing  mobile phone battery production factory in Que Vo industrial park in the northern province of Bac Ninh. The added-capital project aims to meet the increasing demand for mobile phone batteries at Samsung’s factories in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces.

Russia, Vietnam sign new vehicle production deal

Under the agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Unison, Russian vehicle manufacturers such as KAMAZ, GAZ and UAZ will co-operate with their Vietnamese partners to set up several joint ventures to manufacture and assemble trucks, cars with 10 seats and above, crossover utility vehicles (CUV) and a number of special-use vehicles. The protocol was seen as the first bilateral project to develop the free trade agreement (FTA) between Viet Nam and EAEU. The two sides have pledged to assemble cars under Viet Nam’s planning on automobile industry development by 2020, with a vision towards 2030. Of this, the local supply rate will be 25 per cent for the special-use vehicles, 30 per cent for trucks and CUVs and 35 per cent for cars with 10 seats and above by 2020. By 2025, the local supply rate is set to reach 40 per cent for special-use vehicles and CUVs, and 45 per cent for trucks and cars with 10 seats and above.

Vingroup opens two Vincom centres on March 26

Realty developer Vingroup opened Vincom Plaza Buon Ma Thuot in the central province of Dak Lak and put Vincom Plaza Le Van Viet into operation in HCM City on Saturday. Up to now, the group opened 19 Vincom centres in 10 cities and provinces. It is expected to have about 50 centres in 20 cities and provinces this year.

According to the report overview from property managers and distributors in Hanoi, the number of apartments sold in 2015 achieved about 30,000 units, four times higher than that of 2014. This year is estimated to see 24,800 apartments launched for sale from 48 projects, mainly in the price range of over VND 20 million per sqm. Mobifone to pilot 4G services in major Vietnam cities

Network provider MobiFone is planning to pilot 4G services next month, according to local media. The network provider plans to test service in the three major cities of Hanoi, Da Nang and HCMC. Before MobiFone, Viettel had implemented 4G services in December last year in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, with an average speed between 40 and 80 Mb/s, though it could reach 230 Mb/s in some spots.

Vietnam on track to have fourth airline as market sees new height​

The transport ministry has sought the government’s permission to license Vietstar, a military-run aviation company, to provide passenger and goods transport services. Along with three dominant airlines namely Vietnam Airlines (40.8%), Vietjet Airlines (36.3%) and Jetstar Pacific Airlines (14.9%) as, Vietstar, now becomes the fourth main airline in Vietnam and plans to operate routes linking main destinations in Vietnam, beside routes to Southeast Asia and East Asia in the first five years. Despite positive forecast about Vietnam’s air market, it is not all clear skies for new carriers in Vietnam.

Underground shopping mall and parking lot to be built at Thong Nhat Park

People’s Committee of Hanoi City approved the project of shopping mall combined with parking lot at 295 Le Duan (belong to Thong Nhat Park, Hai Ba Trung District), as replaced for the SAS Hanoi hotel project being withdrawn.
