IFC invests $75m in bonds of Vietnamese property developer Phu My Hung

International Finance Corporation (IFC) is subscribing to a 1.7-trillion-dong (US$75-million) bond issuance by Vietnamese property developer Phu My Hung to help the latter expand housing projects to secondary provinces in Vietnam. The proceeds will be primarily used to develop an integrated township in northern rural Hoa Binh province over the next 15-20 years, IFC said in a statement.

 

 


 

Sumitomo to spend US$177 million on expanding industrial parks in Hanoi

Sumitomo will add about 290 hectares to two of its three complexes outside Hanoi. The three industrial parks host roughly 190 companies, 90% of which are Japanese manufacturers. Japanese trading group Sumitomo will spend over US$177 million to expand its two industrial parks in Hanoi, Vietnam, looking to serve businesses shifting production away from China to avoid the trade war, Nikkei Asian Review reported.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has announced that only local contractors will be chosen for the implementation of eastern North-South Expressway project. The ministry on Tuesday decided to revoke the results of the international preliminary bidding process for eight sections of the eastern North-South Expressway project to be invested in a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

South Korea’s CU convenience store chain to open in Vietnam

South Korea’s CU convenience store chain will expand its footprint to Vietnam, its second international market after Mongolia. BGF Retail, the operator of CU, signed a master-franchise agreement with CUVN, a Vietnam-based convenience store operator, on Tuesday. CUVN will be in charge of investment and operations in Vietnam market as BGF Retail contributes its brand and business background. BGF Retail and CUVN plan to open their first store in Vietnam by June next year. 


 

 

 

 

Vascara store chain taken over by Japanese firm

Stripe International has acquired Vietnamese company Global Fashion, which owns women’s accessories brand Vascara. The Japanese firm plans to increase its investment in Vascara in the coming months.
