Swiss-Belhotel to open Vietnam serviced apartments

Vietnam: Swiss-Belhotel International is set to open Swiss-Belhotel Suites & Residences Ha Long Bay in Q4 of this year. The opening is part of a push by the company to grow its Vietnamese portfolio from one property to 10 by 2021. Swiss-Belhotel Suites & Residences Ha Long Bay will overlook north-east Vietnam's UNESCO World Heritage-listed seascape. The new-build property will feature 350 apartments for short and long stays, plus facilities including a spa, fitness centre, swimming pools, multiple F&B outlets, a ballroom and meeting rooms.




Radisson signs new beachfront resort for Vietnam

Radisson Hotel Group has signed a new beachfront property close to Hoi An, the port town on Vietnam’s central coast. Scheduled to open in 2021, the Radisson Blu Hoi An will be on Hà My Beach, eight kilometers from Hoi An’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed town center and 30 minutes’ drive from Danang International Airport. With 734 rooms, suites and villas, the hotel will be the largest property in the company’s Asia-Pacific portfolio. Public spaces will include a water-sports and recreation center, several swimming pools, a spa, fitness center, kids’ club, rooftop garden, three restaurants, a lobby lounge and pool bar. 



Thien Minh Group seeks permit to establish new airline


Hospitality group Thien Minh is looking to establish an airline that can begin operations next year. The airline, called KiteAir, would be based in the central province of Quang Nam. With a charter capital of VND1 trillion (US$43.1 million), it would have 15 short-haul ATR-72 aircraft and 15 narrow-body Airbus A320 or A321 by 2024. Thien Minh Group (TMG) incorporated its aviation company in June, two months after a joint venture plan with AirAsia collapsed. The aviation firm is owned 30 percent by TMG, 60 percent by its chairman Tran Trong Kien and 10 percent by Tran Hang Thu, the group’s financial director.




H&M to open 7th store in Vietnam

International fast-fashion brand H&M will open its fourth store in Ho Chi Minh City and seventh nationwide on August 22. Located at Aeon Mall Tan Phu Celadon in Tan Phu district, the new store covers an area of over 1,000 sq m on one floor.

City to build pedestrian bridge across Saigon River


The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has just assigned the Department of Planning and Architecture to select an architectural design for pedestrian bridge across Saigon River. In particular, the city People’s Committee informed studying methods to organize traffic at both bridge piers, solutions to access transport for the project; combining between the existing transport system and the future one as soon as the construction project of Ton Duc Thang Street and Bach Dang Park will have been completed. Accordingly, the pedestrian bridge is expected to be located near the Ho Chi Minh Square.





HCMC to spend VND2.9 trillion expanding two streets

HCMC is set to invest almost VND2.9 trillion to expand the streets of Tan Ky Tan Quy and Truong Chinh to ease severe traffic congestion at an intersection linking the two streets. Contractors for the expansion plan of Tan Ky Tan Quy Street were selected in June, while those for Truong Chinh Street will be chosen this month, according to the municipal management board for traffic construction investment projects However, site clearance for the two projects has yet to reach completion. The management board has urged the competent agencies in Tan Binh and Tan Phu districts to expedite site clearance compensation to hand over cleared land to the contractors.




After 10-year-delay, southern expressway set for completion in 2021

The long-delayed Trung Luong-My Thuan Bridge could open to traffic next year following the government's approval of supplemental funding for the project. The additional funding of VND2.18 trillion (US$93.36 million) for the key southern expressway, linking HCMC with the Mekong Delta, was approved on Thursday. Under the approved plan in 2017, the expressway originally costs VND9.67 trillion (US$414 million) to build, but this sum has been recently raised to VND12.67 trillion (US$543 million).





HCMC authorities’ housing program under pressure because of overpopulation

The population in the city continues to surge by one million every five years and more than 60 percent of houses in the city are makeshift ones. Specifically, the city targeted to raise the average housing area from 19.8 square meters per person and 22.8 square meters by 2025 or total floor area for housing will increase by 40 million square meters in the period of 2016-202 and 45 million square meters in the period of 2021-2025.








Vietnam bans MacBook Pro laptops on aircraft for fire threat

Vietnam has banned on all flights Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops produced between September 2015 and February 2017 and now recalled for overheating batteries. The decision follows a product recall order by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which said the batteries in these batches pose a fire hazard, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) said in a statement Wednesday. The U.S.’s Federal Aviation Administration has also slapped a similar ban on its carriage aboard aircraft.
