Oyo starts operations in Vietnam, to invest $50m for growth in country

Hospitality chain Oyo Hotels and Homes has launched its services in Vietnam and announced plans to invest over US$50 million in the country over the next few years as it continues to build its presence in Southeast Asia. The company said it now has over 90 franchised hotels available across Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Vang Tau, and Nha Trang. It plans to expand its footprint to 10 cities in the country by the end of 2020.




CapitaLand to form one of Asia’s largest diversified real estate groups

Singapore-based realty company CapitaLand Ltd has completed its acquisition of Temasek Holding-owned Ascendas-Singbridge Pte Ltd, creating one of Asia’s largest diversified real estate groups with more than S$123 billion (US$90.68 billion) of assets under management.



Airport project worth VND5.7 trillion proposed in Quang Tri


The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has submitted a plan for developing an airport in Quang Tri Province to the Ministry of Transport for consideration and approval. The project will require VND5.7 trillion in investment. The capital, equivalent to roughly US$245 million, will be mobilized from various sources, including the State budget and enterprises under a public-private partnership





Kafnu joins coworking space market in HCMC

Coworking space facility Kafnu, which is operated and managed by international hospitality company Next Story Group, has been put into service in HCMC’s Binh Thanh District, marking the brand’s first appearance in the local coworking space market. Kafnu HCMC is an eight-story building located in Saigon Pearl, covering over 2,400 square meters




HCMC plans to build Ho Chi Minh Square in Thu Thiem
The HCM government has written to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism asking for feedback on the construction of Ho Chi Minh Square in the Thu Thiem new urban area in HCMC’s District 2. The projected square will be developed as a venue to serve major political events and cultural exchange activities and will highlight HCMC’s role as a cultural hub uniting traditional characteristics with modern ones. In addition, the city proposed the square be named after the late president Ho Chi Minh.




Vietnam’s outlook remains positive: WB

Vietnam’s growth momentum has been moderate since the beginning of the year, but the outlook remains positive, according to Taking Stock, the World Bank (WB)’s bi-annual economic report on Vietnam, released on July 1. The public debt-to-GDP ratio declined from a peak of 63.7% in 2016 to an estimated 58.4 in 2018 Real GDP growth for the whole year of 2019 is forecast to decelerate to 6.6. Inflation indexes are expected to be kept below the official inflation target of 4%.The tourism industry contributed 8% of GDP in 2017





HCMC proposes to adjust total investment of two urban railway projects

HCM People’s Committee Office had sent a document to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, proposing it to give the city assistance and guidance to adjust the total investment capital of two metro projects namely Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien and Ben Thanh-Tham Luong. The city is implementing 11 projects including eight investment and three technical assistance projects with the total capital of VND104,071 billion (US$4.48 billion). Of these, ODA source is VND88,565 billion and reciprocal capital is VND15,506 billion. In 2019, ODA capital allocated from the central budget is VND199 billion (US$8.56 million) and counterpart funds nears VND1.2 trillion (US$51.62 million).




Thailands Centara eyes 20 new hotels in Viet Nam by 2024

Thai hotel operator Centara Hotels & Resorts has unveiled plans to significantly expand its portfolio in Viet Nam by opening at least 20 hotels in the next five years. Its targeted locations include economic hubs such as HCM City, Ha Noi and Hai Phong, and other high-growth areas like Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, and Hoi An.





Industrial park occupancy rate reaches 74%

The occupancy rate at operational industrial parks (IPs) nationwide has hit 74%.By the end of June, there were 326 IPs nationwide with total area of 95,500ha. Of which, industrial land area was 65,600ha, accounting for 68.7% of the total. The country has 17 coastal economic zones (EZs) established so far on about 845,000ha on land and water.

HCM People’s Committee is scheduled to organize a reception to talk to households who have lodged complaints about Thu Thiem new urban area planning which has caused great heat of controlversy for years in the end of July this year.
